The Digital Divide

At the end of the 20th century, 90% of data on Africa was stored in Europe and the United States.

With only 18% of the world population, OECD countries contain nonetheless 79% of the world’s internet users.

The United States, with a population close to the population of the Middle East, has 199 million Internet users while the Middle East has only 16 million.

34% of internet users are in developing countries. 81% of the world population is in developing countries.

The density of fixed telephone lines and mobile telephone lines is 5 times more in developed countries than in developing countries. PC ownership is 11 times more, and internet usage 8 times more. [developed=western Europe, Australia, Canada, japan, new Zealand, the US; everyone else in developing]

Of the estimated 5-8 million internet users in Africa, only about 2 million users are outside of North and South Africa. This implies about 1 user for every 250 to 400 people. This compares to the world average of 1 for every 15 people and a North and European average of 1 user for every 2 persons.

Within the Global South, opportunities are also unevenly distributed. In the Dominican Republic, 80% of internet users are in the capital. In China, the two cities of Shanghai and Beijing contain as many internet users as the 15 least connected provinces of 600 million people combined. In India, home to a major global hub of innovation, only 0.4% of people use the Internet.

Of the approximately 816 million people in Africa in 2001, it is estimated that:

1 in 4 have a radio

1 in 13 have a TV

1 in 35 have a mobile phone

1 in 40 have a fixed line phone

1 in 130 have a PC

1 in 60 use the Internet

Telephones

One third of the world population has never made a telephone call.

While Sub-Saharan Africa contains about 10% of the world’s population, it accounts for only 0.2% of the world’s 1 billion telephone lines.

The cost of renting a telephone connection on the African continent averages about 20 percent of GDP per capita compared to a world average of 9 percent and an average of only 1 percent in high-income countries.

There are under 5 telephones per 100 people in India.

In the world, there are over 1.2 billion fixed telephone lines, 1.3 billion cellular subscribers and 140 billion international telephone traffic minutes each year.

Mobile Telephones

As of 2002, mobile subscribers worldwide have outnumbered fixed-line subscribers. The mobile cross-over has taken place across geographic criteria, across socio-demographic criteria such as gender, income, or age, and across economic criteria.

Brazil has the same number of cellular phone subscribers as the whole of Africa combined. Asia, with 450 million subscribers, has twice the number of subscribers as the Americas combined. There are 836.5 million mobile subscribers in OECD countries.

While the United States has 199 million cell phone subscribers, it is not part of the top ten countries with the highest percentage of mobile subscribers. 55% of the US population are mobile subscribers.

Africa holds only 3% of the world’s mobile subscribers, yet Africa is the first place where mobile subscribers outnumbered fixed-line subscribers. In five years (1997-2002), the number of cell phone subscribers in Africa grew by 1600%.

Nicaragua has more than 3 times more mobile phone subscribers than fixed land lines (739 thousand compared with 214 thousand).

The number of mobile subscriptions per 100 people in a given country range from 120 in Luxembourg, to .44 in Malaysia, 24 in Jordan, 13 in Palestine, 3 in Nigeria et 0.7 in Tajikistan.

Patents

OECD countries, with 14% of the world’s people, accounted for 86% of the patent applications filed in 1998 and 85% of the scientific and technical journal articles published worldwide.

Firms in developed countries currently account for 96% of royalties from patents, or $71 billion a year.

The Computing Sector

In the UK, women constitute only about 20% of computer science classes (AGCAS 2003). In the US, the percentage of female computer science bachelors has decreased by 28% between 1983 and 1998 (Gurer and Camp 2002). Similarly in the computer science industry, the average female presence hovers around 20% (DfES 2001, AAUW 2000).

The computing industry exhibits vertical segregation (certain occupations for women, others for men) as well as horizontal segregation (women clustered in lower echelon occupations); in 1991 only 10% of the members of the British Computing Society were women. In 2000 9% of US IT engineers were women. On the other hand, 80% of data entry personnel was female. (Ahuja 2002; Webster 1996; Taggart & O’Gara 2000)

eWaste

220 million tons of old computers and other technological hardware are trashed in the United States each year.

Only 11% of PCs are recycled; the percentage for televisions and mainframes recycled is lower.

The United States generates more e-waste than any other nation .

An estimated 50-80% of e-waste collected in the United States for recycling is exported to areas such as China, India or Pakistan. Unusable equipment is also being donated or sold to developing nations as a way to avoid recycling costs.

An estimated 50-80% of e-waste collected in the United States for recycling is exported to areas such as China, India or Pakistan. Unusable equipment is also being donated or sold to developing nations as a way to avoid recycling costs.

It's been a small forever in the coming, featuring many legendary days and nights and a royal meltdown in between, but the new Wiccle.com is now live and better than ever!

Both the structure and the look of the site have been revamped, the code has been updated to latest Wiccle pre-release software spiced with several custom modules, and should overall be bigger and better in every way.

Please take a moment to study the main areas of the site:

iWiccle: A separate section dedicated to iWiccle CMS Community Builder.

Wiccle: A new section for our upcoming flagship product, Wiccle Web Builder!

Download: A straight-forward download section.

Overview: A summary section with general information on our products and the Wiccle Framework.

Fusion: The grandmother of all aggregations, our community and resource central is now better than ever! The old Backstage has also found a new home there.

Support: Support tickets has finally been added to our selection, and the section has had an overall revamp.

Shop: Still in its infancy, Wiccle Shop will be hosting a good deal of goods to buy, both from us and others with vendor access.

Much more is said in the many new texts and graphics you see all around the site — browse around and find what's new! Current iWiccle Ads Free license owners have been upgraded to Fusion Premium Membership access (beta and getting better).

Once you get a moment to breathe from all the new content, please share your feedback on the new site, and should you encounter any bugs, please also report them in the community forums.

So it's out now, iWiccle 1.0! Building and releasing it has been a massive endeavor, yet it's only the dawn of things to come. iWiccle and Wiccle will evolve at a fast pace, filling in the market need for dynamic and easy-to-control Web 2.0 applications.

First off, there were four little bugs / issues in the very first download (released at 4 AM our time) that have been fixed in the now updated download:

Events module default page was set wrong and showed blank (/modules/events/events_core.php)

Installer had an unreferenced $error variable (caused a notice in phase 2, no error).

Some file clutter has been removed from /modules/events (dummy sql files from testing).

Admin > Wiccle News, a broken div hid the newsfeed from displaying (/core/admin/admin_skin_home.php).

If you want to update your iWiccle install at any time, you can just rewrite the files in your folders (except /uploads of course) with the files from the latest bundle. Database changes may/will only happen between larger versions, and an installer will take care of your transit towards better wiccling. If you spot a bug, please comment here or send mail to us.

There are a huge number of features that didn't make it into v1.0 but that are almost complete. iWiccle isn't the end — it's the beginning, the first taste of things to come. The admin panel will nearly double in size and features once all is said and done, and the front-end will also get a bit more in the days to come once we get some loose ends tied up.

We also have a number of other modules almost complete, rolled out with future Wiccle versions. Expect to see a tentative feature roadmap for future releases published within the week. By the end of the week, iWiccle enhancements will also be rolled out at Wiccle.com, currently running on an early beta of the Wiccle core.

Both iWiccle and Wiccle are built atop the Wiccle Framework, a modular Web 2.0 production environment that gives them hundreds of exciting features, and countless ways to expand.

This page makes for a slightly technical read — if you were looking for easy-digest information on the different applications available in a product, please read about Modules (iWiccle / Wiccle).

There are five basic elements that combine in making a slick Wiccle Framework website: 1. Admin Panel», 2. Builders», 3. System Core», 4. Members», and 5. Modules». They each contribute a set of features, adding up to hundreds of features available out of the box. With our tools, you can also become your own website architect and easily combine, tweak, and invent something totally new!

Administration Panel

An extensive and intuitive state-of-the-art administration panel, Wiccle Admin satisfies both the newcomer and the seasoned pro. The Admin Panel is split into sections for managing almost every aspect of your site —

You can manage users and usergroups, extend your site's look and functionality, modify modules and build menus, configure system and server settings, take and restore backups, and much more! You can also narrow it down for sub-administrators, keeping critical areas to yourself alone.

Builder: Innovative Web Building

While there are several slick WYSIWYG builder tools used across the system for different purposes, we're talking about the builder: Wiccle Builder is a hands-on website creation tool that gives you near-infinite control of the content and appearance of your site.

Every box and column of your website can be easily resized and moved around with a drag-and-drop interface. You can also add in your own texts and images or configure dynamic content in thousands of possible combinations, and place them almost anywhere you want!

Core: The Kernel of Your Website

A modular and efficient all-purpose core with keeps your system healthy and happy regardless of its shape and size. The included classes and configuration files let even a novice web developer customize and create new modules with ease. Almost all data is placed atop uniform grids, and again, almost every feature available in a module will also be available for the others.

And if none of that made much sense, don't worry — the Core works happily in the background without a need for you to understand or touch any of the above at all. It works just fine with a basic three-minute installation. Bottom line: Working with Wiccle Framework isn't about grinding your teeth — it's about fulfilling your web vision with ease.

Members and Interaction

Starting with customizable member profiles and on-site mail, message walls and more, social networking and community features are built deep into the system. Powerful usergroup and permission management make it easy to tailor a site to different usergroups down to the last action and block of content.

Whether it's Blogs, eCommerce, or Videos, most iWiccle/Wiccle modules can run either in stand-alone mode where only you share content, or in community-mode where all members get their own identical sections for sharing their content. Wiccle Framework takes the concept of community building and online collaboration to a whole new level!

Modules: Diverse Web Applications

Module is a unique application that plugs into Wiccle Framework and brings you sections like Auctions, Blogs, File Downloads, Support Tickets, or Discussion Forums. iWiccle comes with six modules by default, while Wiccle boasts over 20 powerful modules.

You can also weave modules into new layouts and looks, clone modules and change them to create new modules, or include modules inside modules (such as blogs and photos inside groups, or articles and downloads at support ticket desk).

We're not joking when we say Wiccle Platform provides an all-in-one website solution!

Wiccle Web Builder v1.0 is a new CMS framework to get excited about, for the programmers, for the graphic artists, for the web designers, for start-ups, and for anyone who wants to create a powerful new website of your dreams, your goals and your vision.

Here at Wiccle camp, we tend to try explain what Wiccle really is in many ways as it is a CMS, a Website Builder, a WYSIWYG Page Builder, a SEO Engine, a Social Network Engine, a Dating Script, a Blog Builder, an eCommerence System, & an all in one box website design tool-suite with a new designed programming framework that includes a few new scripting commands built on top of the source. In truth Wiccle is all of these plus much more when you can actually merge all the modules into each other to create brand new ones!

For now we are going to stick the label "Content Management System" onto Wiccle, and at some time in 2010 we will try to give Wiccle a new class name with help from our members here to correctly describe what Wiccle really is in only a few words. Wiccle is going to grow with new features, new modules, improved admin / page builder, and it is because of your support (Fusion Members), this will happen.

Let's take a good look into 2010 on some highlights that will arrive in the coming updates to Wiccle..

• Wiccle CMS to CMS Converter (3rd party CMS platforms). Take your only CMS website and plug it into the new Wiccle system for more power, more features and have the best of both worlds or change one over to Wiccle with our data conversion tools.

• Wiccle Template Converter - What if you could take any pre-made designed website template and get it converted into a Wiccle / iWiccle format with just a few clicks? This is will now give the non-programmers, the non-artists the first real ability to go wild with creating new high-end websites.

• Wiccle Cloud - Wiccle will get a whole new Admin section that will allow you to take control over your Hosting package in the same fashion as you would use various control panel scripts to add emails, to change settings, stats, etc. Wiccle Cloud will bridge your website with your host and a new landing page is planned where it will act more like a "Desktop" with icons where you can take control of your website admin, other Wiccle sites on your host, backend admin, even link your fav feeds directly to your new landing page.

• Wiccle AI - We already have laid the foundations in the source but it might not be clear yet by looking at it! The Wiccle AI is going to be your new buddy that will help beginners to create a new website, to take care of some of the work involved and to help maintain the website once finished. This is going to be ground-breaking in any form and because of my own experience from the games development industry where pushing AI boundaries is the norm, we are going to bring here in the web space. As one could guess, we are going to build this AI add-on in stages and will share each stage in future updates to Wiccle.

• Wiccle Modules - Well at v1.0 we have 20+ modules, in 2010 we are going to add another 20+ modules. Most new modules will come from the feedback and requests from our members here that have Wiccle sites running who need new custom features. Some of these modules will be like their own independent software suites such as our planned "Photo Enterprise Module".
• Wiccle Admin / Page Builder - The improvements here will be clearly seen in the coming months as we listen to our members to help them manage everything in a fast, clear, and friendly manner.

• Wiccle64 - We intend to bring Wiccle across to different industries, such as my own industry in the Games Development arena, where Wiccle will enter the Living Room as not just a cool interactive program but where both the hobbyists, the start-ups, the small developers and Publishers can take full advantage of this system around their gaming content. Cloud Gaming anyone?! =)

Back to 2009, I can hear the whispers in the wind of when Wiccle v1.0 will be released, what can it do for you, will it give the ease of use of Wordpress with the power of Joomla / Drupal or can it rival certain Social Network Builders / Dating Scripts / Website Builders.. The answer is yes it can, and while we are at it, let us for one week only during the time of Wiccle v1.0 release, help design your website to boot! We want to showcase many types of Websites using Wiccle to give you our members a good idea of what Wiccle can do. While we have been busy rounding up a few examples from various businesses here in Galway City - Ireland, we have barely used 10% of Wiccle can do for most of them so far, as well with the ones still in our "buffer" list of yet to do's.

In the Wiccle World, there is nothing quite like a Round-Table of discussion of the future road-map as we take each update & release a step closer to the leading edge of Content Management Systems. Moving past this we will be creating a space where the name CMS will not fit in any more as both systems expand beyond scope of the latest trends, into setting new trends. So here is a sneak peek into our Wiccle World..

iWiccle is the personnel edition of Wiccle, while Wiccle is targeted for the creation of new or existing online businesses. iWiccle is Open Source, while Wiccle is commercial but you will get the full Source of Wiccle, ability to change, mod, etc as iWiccle but cannot re-release for profit or non-profit of the program / parts of the scripts. The same model is true for most Open Source Commercial scripts but we are drawing a fine line to make sure it is clear where others would not be so clear on. Example: You are a Web Design Company looking to use Wiccle for creating websites for your clients. Yes you can use Wiccle as many times as you want for your client / change the code / add mods / anything you want, and all you need to do is put in a new Licence Key for each domain. Wiccle will be bundled with a number of Licence keys, which will be announced near the release of version 1.0.

iWiccle & Wiccle are standalone platforms from each other. The powerful core of Wiccle is being used for iWiccle and as time moves on, many features found in Wiccle but not in iWiccle, will be passed into iWiccle as Wiccle gains new powerful features. We will be very careful to strike a good balance between both platforms.

iWiccle is as important to us as Wiccle is, we will be pushing iWiccle to become a leading Community Content Management System over the coming months in making it easier to use, touch screen controls in the Builder, new features including full VPS support with Media functions which we are calling iWiccle E. We will be adding hundreds of new functions both major & minor over the coming months. All of this is free, no hidden costs, very straight forward.

Before leaving this blog, here is a short list of the major features you can expect with Version 1.0 of Wiccle..

- Forums
- IM Chat
- Videos
- Audio
- Shopping Carts
- Auctions
- Ticket Events
- Downloads with File Supports
- Plug-In Support for 3rd Party Software
- Extra Admin Features

So what kind of Websites can Wiccle create ?

- Powerful Social Networks / Facebook – MySpace style Websites
- Shopping Channels / Amazon style Websites
- Auction Style Websites / EBay style Websites
- Video / YouTube style Websites
- Music / Bands / iTunes style Websites
- Event Websites with Ticket sales / Ticketmaster style Websites
- Forum – Boards / Boards style Websites
- Download Portals / Download.com style Websites
- Chat Room Sites

Let’s not forget that everything that iWiccle has to offer is already in Wiccle, so here is the recap of websites that Wiccle can also create !

- Any Standard Websites with Web 2.0 functions
- Blog Sites / Wordpress style websites
- Communities & Groups / Yahoo style Websites
- Portfolios & Presentations with interactive features
- Photo Galleries / Flickr style Websites
- Link Directories / Dmoz style Websites
- Searchable Content websites with powerful search functions
- News Portals / CNN.com style Websites
- Article Repositories
- Story Book Sites

The true power of Wiccle is not the ability to create any one type of website as examples given above but to be able to “combine” them to create something that has not yet surfaced / fresh designs. With this, any Wiccle member can create a website matching, if not surpassing any leading website in functions or raw power. This should give you all the tools you will ever need for your website creation but if that was not enough, Wiccle allows the importing of 3rd party programs. If you want to use another “Forums” program, just plug it in, no need to use the Wiccle forums. We will be adding more 3rd party programs where allowed and when we can. For Web programmers, Wiccle will make it easy to plug in these programs that we have yet to support.

A sneek peek screenshot of a playful design to the Shopping Cart Feature in Wiccle -

As we roll on through the coming months, iWiccle and Wiccle will mature with new updates, features and add-ons. The list above is not the end of what Wiccle or iWiccle can create. This is just the beginning . .

WickedZealot: Blogs / Solutions: WordPress or iWiccle?

WordPress has become one of the most popular online publishing tools of our day. How does the iWiccle / Wiccle platform (later: Wiccle) compare as a solution for community and content management purposes? Today, we take look at some of the considerations you should go over in choosing the right software to run your website.

Before we look at the details, let's remember the big picture. WordPress was built with a focus on blogging, and has since been extended to accommodate more CMS functionality. The Wiccle platform was built as a multi-purpose, modular publishing engine to support just about anything we want it to. The free iWiccle ships with modules for Articles, Blogs, Discussion Groups, Photo Galleries, and Link Directories. The commercial Wiccle ships with a whole lot more.

When it comes to customizing your site structure, WordPress has little to match the power of the Wiccle Builder. While WordPress sports a two-column layout and a way to drag and drop widgets to the sidebar, with Wiccle Builder, you can directly modify the contents and appearance of any unit anywhere on your site, move and resize them freely to just about anywhere, create any amount of columns or none at all, and much more. You can also use the same drag-and-drop builder technology for creating custom menus, profile layouts, and much more.

Both Wiccle and WordPress use TinyMCE as a WYSIWYG text editor for writing the content for your pages. Wiccle tops that up with an integrated image manager that automagically generates a set of optimized (and customizable) image-sizes you can insert to your pages as a two-click operation. Wiccle further sports a two-tier search index (one for your custom pages, and one for content published through modules) and a number of added search engine optimizations.

WordPress wasn't designed to be a social networking tool, so it isn't really a viable community builder solution. It seems to have been designed to be a one-man show with some member support for becoming a co-author, leaving comments, and so on. With iWiccle / Wiccle, you don't create a single blog --- you create a community of blogs, or a blogging service. Or a news publishing service, or a photo community project, etc. --- while down-scalable, Wiccle empowers entire communities by default.

You can modify your WordPress with a handy click-and-install interface for themes and widgets --- a very cool Admin feature. This is in fact something we had planned to introduce as early as iWiccle 1.0, but which has been delayed in favor of allowing the Wiccle shared modification platform to develop into something we can guarantee seamless support for. Our general installations (the famous 3-minute iWiccle install ) and upgrades will also migrate to a one-click packet manager available in the Admin CP.

As far as Admin control panels go in general, WordPress is nice and polished, but doesn't quite empower you on the level that Wiccle Admin does. Nor was it intended to, because we're talking apples and oranges here. WordPress is a nice big blog fruit, and Wiccle is a multi-purpose Tree 2.0 with modular fruit support.

WordPress is a great solution if you want a very decent blogging platform, possibly with some nifty widgets and a bit more.

iWiccle / Wiccle offer great solutions if you want to build custom websites, start feature-rich communities, and offer a wide range of functionality and means of publishing.

WickedZealot: Blogs / iWiccle, Wiccle, Open-source, and our contribution

iWiccle (currently at v1.10) and Wiccle (v1.0 in development) are two separate products with two separate aims, albeit they share a good deal of technology. This text touches on the philosophies behind the two, clarifies a thing or two on copyright and licenses, and looks into our present and future contributions to both the open-source community and the world of business software.

iWiccle and Wiccle – One and different

iWiccle and future iWiccle spinoffs and extended versions are our contribution to the open-source world. They are licensed under a Creative Commons License, giving you a great deal of freedom to modify, experiment, share and distribute. iWiccle is well-suited and feature-extensive enough to cater to most common needs related with website page building, communities, and online publishing.

Wiccle, the product we originally set to develop, is a commercial software suite aimed for media sites, eCommerce sites, high-end community sites, dating sites, and other extensive online purposes, commercial or otherwise. This is where the bulk of our revenue will be coming from, granting us the resources and the capacity to expand and extend the scope of our Web 2.0 application development.

iWiccle is, in fact, a spinoff of the core we began originally developing for Wiccle. WIth the development of Wiccle core already at a fine stage, and with most eCommerce and many media features already dealt with, we decided to move ahead of ourselves and release an open-source spinoff of our commercially developed product even before the actual product's release. Talk about unusual business approaches!

If iWiccle is open-source, why the copyrights?

Licensing and copyrights are two separate issues. License is something you get from the copyright owner, detailing the terms by which you may use the product. A license may tell you to use the product only in Alaska, or on only one website — or a license may allow you to do with it just about whatever in the world you could imagine, or require that you send a post card to the author. They come in many forms and flavors.

Copyright is something that the creator of an original work gains by default with the act of creation. The copyrights of both iWiccle and Wiccle belong to Bridge Media, Ltd., an Irish company founded by Keith Killilea. To illustrate, anyone can download and use OpenOffice, a free open-source office software suite — but don't imagine the creators of OpenOffice no longer hold the copyright, just because it's open-source, or because you downloaded it from a website for free!

Yes, and something being out in the open and freely available to the public does not mean it is public domain. If a work or a software is in public domain, it means the public owns it — or in other words, that no individual or organization can hold a legitimate claim over its copyrights. Works only go into public domain when they are specifically released into public domain, and as the copyright-holder waives his rights — or as the legal copyrights eventually expire.

Well then, why the advertisement?

We are proud of our free product, and we wish to make a statement and show that it's spreading. The more iWiccle spreads, the better it is for for us, the larger our community, the better for the product, the bigger the associated resources, the final beneficiary being those who download and use it — which would be you.

We do not display third-party ads, and we have no intention to start doing so. The ads, or rather the ad, you see in the footer only displays a note about iWiccle and Wiccle with two sub-100px graphics on either side. While the wording may change from version to version, rest assured we have no plans for one day coming up with a "necessary" upgrade that blasts your free iWiccle full of third-party ads!

To be able to bring about progress, adaptation, absorption, and spread of new technologies, sufficient money is a necessary evil. To that end, sales and copyrights are necessary. Our iWiccle license comes with a clause requiring you to not remove the embedded iWiccle footer without purchasing an ad-free version, identical to the free version with the exception of our "signature".

This lets the free products contribute to the overall iWiccle development and growth. When something is given, something needs to come back — balance is a prerequisite of sustainability. A Yin-and-yang sort of thing, you know — the Tao of Wiccle. Remind me to return to that on a better occasion, but harmony and symmetry are the heart of all good design, including the design of Wiccle architecture.

One needs to to generate the resources necessary for producing something substantial — such as we intend to. Substantial, as in setting a new pace to the introduction of cutting-edge technology in a framework that empowers internet users from all walks of life to accomplish with ease most of what they'd ever need to set up on the internet for themselves or for their businesses or organizations. A mouthful of talk to walk, but our feet were made for walking.

The Best of Both Worlds

As our future products grow and develop, we also intend to release stable and patch-maintained versions of selected "last year" scripts and script suites, dropped to the public to pick apart or to create a spinoff from a healthy base product. Too much skill goes wasted in the world when people with talent, but without the necessary tools or the money to secure them, can't fulfill their dreams. It's like throwing away a pack of dry food because the expiry date was yesterday!

Software, too, needs to be recycled for the common good. I see no reason to not release slightly older but very useful software to the open --- and with our pace of development, I suspect we may be having old versions of commercial software dropping out annually... Along with the current freebies, whatever all that may feature in the future!

We believe in the merits of complete open source and the overall idea of contribution to the shared good. That notwithstanding, random donations and pats on the back on internet forums are unfortunately not going to pay the bills, to say naught of creating sufficient room for any substantial expansion in the way and at the pace we wish to see it happen.

As far as business and open-source go, we employ a bit of both in our business models; that balance, again! A truly useful thing to have. Stick around and see what the future brings — we intend to become the best of both worlds when it comes to empowering people and businesses in the creation of their internet solutions!

What many may not have seen is a video from our Youtube channel showing Keith wiccle around with Wiccle Builder in a demo video from early June when iWiccle was going through its betamorphosis. Let's recycle the video for a quick recap of what Wiccle Builder can do for you:

How about that for customizing your site's look and content? 80% of all system-generated content units (such as blog posts, comments, blogs, categories, favorites, mails etc.) are customizable by order (name, date, author etc.), format (template type used), scope (limited by category, author, blog etc.), and finally, quantity.

You can literally configure any amount of almost any kind of content to appear in almost any position on any one of your web pages or page-types (such as all pages showing any given individual blog post), turn them into short summaries, headline feeds, full entries and more, generate custom headers and content sorting dropdown menus, change browser title bar texts, and so on. We'll get into the details of the builder and its system-generated content in a separate entry.

Wiccle Builder Custom Content CMS

Today's gloss is on a feature we have just completed for inclusion into Monday's upcoming iWiccle 1.01 patch and feature update, the Wiccle Custom Content Builder subset of the Wiccle Builder tool. Below is an illustration of the custom content builder in action (editing the iWiccle default home page).

You can create a content unit anywhere on any one of your pages and modules, choose "Custom" as the content type, and create a section of your page to include the exact content you want it to have. You can use a cutting edge WYSIWYG editor (thanks to TinyMCE) or edit in HTML mode, and upload images for insertion in several scalable sizes. You can also create an unlimited amount of distinct pages with their own layouts with your custom contents.

The illustration also shows you our inline Image Uploader, something you'll meet in the right column when you start publishing blogs and articles in your iWiccle. The Uploader handles as many images as you care to upload, offers them for inclusion in five formats from mini-thumbnail to full 640px width (and is customizable), keeps track of uploaded images and their parent posts and makes them available when you return to edit your posts, and rumor goes it will also be able to sing and dance (on the roadmap for v1.20).

If you have an idea on how to make building custom content for web pages easier, please let us know and we'll do it for free. If your idea is solid, you'll see it built in as an alternative or extending tool to the Wiccle Builder editor, and you can start designing your pages even easier and smoother. The offer is indefinitely open, subject to finishing current deadlines. We're not kidding when we say "Wiccle — Power of the internet in Your hands! ". We're working on it, we're doing it, and you're getting it.
